BOXHEAD SHIRAZ
Syrah / Shiraz
750 ML (Standard)
Australia/New Zealand
$16.38
This wine has generally drank well above its price point and the 2012 offering is no different. A bit of Barossa fruit was tossed in to fatten it up a bit. This is balanced by some cool fruit from Langhorne Creek along with the cocoa-chile powder notes from the Vale and the result is a balanced, elegant Shiraz for downing a second bottle. All parcels were crushed, destemmed and left on skins for approximately 15 days during primary ferment. The parcels were then pressed and kept separate for malolactic fermentation. A portion underwent malolactic fermentation and maturation in seasoned French puncheon while the remainder was aged in stainless.Saturated ruby. Floral, fragrant and fresh on the nose, displaying dark berry and oak spice aromas. Zesty blackberry and bitter cherry flavors show good clarity and lift thanks to juicy acidity. Deepens on the persistent finish, featuring peppery spice, vanilla and violet pastille notes.Region: South AustraliaVarietal: 100% ShirazVintage: 2012Vineyard: 1 site in the Barossa Valley - 2 sites in McLaren Vale - 1 site in Langhorne CreekVine Age: 25 years oldYield: 3.8 tons per acreSoil Type: VariedOak: 9 months in seasoned French puncheons (80%) - Stainless Steel (20%)Production: 10,000 cases
